With the spotlight on Middlesbrough and the
surrounding arts scene at present, it is as important as ever to continue to highlight artists and talent in the North East. Platform A presents its latest exhibition, ‘TYPIFIED’: A
group showcase featuring represented and associated artists Emma Bennett, Tony Charles, Rachael Clewlow, Nick Kennedy, Annie O’Donnell, and Francesca Simon.
The exhibition brings together a diverse yet
complementary range of practitioners and artwork demonstrating a clean, crisp aesthetic underpinned by conceptual consistency and contemporary process. Platform A Gallery has cultivated relationships with artists who have developed their practice through an
exploration of a variety of materials and techniques and brings them together to constitute a typical mark, characteristic and complete representation; to typify.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Bennett’s practice centres around colour and
architecture, investigating the nostalgic attachment to structures and places in the Tees Valley and beyond.
Charles investigates the relationship between drawing and sculpture, two dimension and three dimension all while underpinning his practice with industrial principles.
Clewlow’s work acts as a means to ‘translate’ her
investigations of the landscapes she inhabits into abstraction, turning the accumulation of data and research into abstract imagery.
Kennedy’s practice expands the notion of drawing, ranging in methods from expanding the uses of found/’made’ elements to transforming the application of typical materials.
O’Donnell investigates place and identity through her artwork, often reflecting on the North East region and it’s heritage to reconsider the narratives of places around her.
Simon’s work revolves around discipline and precision to create geometric, form-focused pieces built around non-objective imagery.
